home + food + family:
Organic Dairy Linked to Lower Rates of Asthma, Eczema and Allergies in Kids

According to a new study, moms that drank organic milk during pregnancy and while breastfeeding had babies that had less eczema, asthma and other related allergies. The study was launched in response to the frightening statistics of epidemic levels of allergies and asthma in kids worldwide, amounting to about one third of all children worldwide.

The researchers of the study called KOALA (a dutch acronym for Children, Parent and Health: Lifestyle and Genetic Constitution) Birth Cohort study, evaluated the benefits of conventional versus organic foods. The results concluded "...the possibility that the lower risk of eczema in children who used organic dairy products was actually due to a high consumption of organic dairy by the mother, conferring protection already starting in the intra-uterine period and during lactation." The researcher also acknowledge earlier studies that showed levels of eczema, allergies and asthma lower in children from families who eat organic food, use few anti biotics and aspirin, and where children are breastfed longer.

Seems science is catching up to some obvious facts...whole food, minus hormones and chemicals is actually better for kids - now that's a real news flash :)
