Recycling Shipping Containers:
Chic Portable Cafe Launches in NYC

Turning excess standard shipping containers into living quarters has been the stuff of "pie in the sky" dreams of architects and designers for some time. But one artist-architect is about to make that dream a reality with an ultra chic little cafe smack in the middle of the Big Apple.

Adam Kalkin’s "Push Button House" is being adapted into a cafe for Illy Coffee and will be open for business between November 28 and December 29, 2007 near the Time Warner Center in New York City. It seems that Kalkin's vision has become so infectious that the artist has more orders for other manifestations of the design, than he can handle.
