The enormously talented musician, philanthropist and human rights activist Bono is behind a new charity initiative bringing together one of the biggest name in celebrity sport with one of the biggest mountains in the world. Announced just last week, soccer star David Beckham has decided (with convincing from Bono) to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for UNICEF. The A List celebrity sports hero also joined another British soccer notable, West Ham goal keeper Robert Green, as he climbs Africa's highest peak in north east Tanzania.
A source close to Beckham spoke to the The Sun newspaper remarking on the recent announcement: “The 19,340ft peak is a bit outside of David’s normal comfort zone but he is absolutely set on making the climb. No date has been fixed yet because David is very busy with his LA Galaxy commitments, but he is absolutely set on doing it.”
Beckham previously teamed up with Bono at the Live 8 concert in 2005 when he introduced British singer Robbie Williams.
