China certainly has a way to go before being recognized as an exemplary nation in it's environmental record, but the coming of the Beijing games is putting the nation in overdrive to clean up its act.
The most recent of a string of "green initiatives" is China's ambitious ban on plastic bags. Yes, the nation that tops the list of world's polluters is now banning the production of all plastic bags thinner than .025 mm (apparently the predominant bag size that gets thrown away).
We love China's good green moves - we just hope that the recent policies are the beginning of a new more conscious approach to the environment instead of simply ambitious PR stunts. As they say...time will tell.
