Can one day of the year promise global peace ? One man thought so - and fought to align nothing short of the world governments to make that dream come true...on September 21, 2001 World Peace Day was born.
The day was created after a unanimous adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a global cease fire and non-violence. The idea was the birth child of Jeremy Gilley, who founded his non-profit organization, Peace One Day in 1999.
This year the annual concert celebrating this special day will take place featuring performances from Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, and a guest appearance from Jude Law. In addition, the event will include a gala screening of the film documenting the birth of World Peace Day, titled "The Day After Peace," which features Kofi Annan and the Dalai Lama as well as a slate of celebrities and international figures who stand for world peace.
