Nothing can feel as debilitating as the daily pain, stiffness, and swelling, associated with many joint diseases. The current conventional approach of anti-inflammatories and pain medications can have damaging long term effects on multiple body systems including the liver, kidneys, and even your bones.
Naturopathic therapy starts with the basics.
1. Create a healthy lifestyle. Discuss with your practitioner whether increasing your activity level will increase your joint damage. You may be surprised to know that gentle movement can improve many joint ailments.
2. Diet: Yes, What you eat can make your joint systems worse. A diet rich in animal fats and low in Essential fatty acids can increase joint inflammation and worsen your symptoms. Add anti-inflammatory herbs and spices to your cooking regimen especially, Tumeric, Ginger, Garlic, and Onions. Be sure to discuss with your doctor what medications you may be taking that may interact with these herbs.
3. Hydrotherapy: Water Works. For years athletic trainers and moms everywhere have put ice packs on sore knees and ankles. As science would confirm, cold especially cold water can push potentially damaging inflammation away form the injured joint which can also decrease the pain. For chronic joint problems alternating warm and cold compresses or foot baths is remarkable for speeding the healing process and alleviating symptoms. Always uses the cold last.
4. Supplements: For those chronic joint sufferers there are numerous nutritional supplement ingredients that can help improve function without pharmaceuticals. For example: Herbs like Boswelia, and Devils Club, nutritionals like Bromelain, Quercetin, MSM and Glucosamine are effective anti-inflammatories without dangerous side effects when taken responsibly.
Most importantly when joint disease is concerned is that suffering without any treatment is the worst possible approach. Do not let the recalls on pharmaceuticals scare you into doing nothing to improve your quality of life, and prevent further joint damage, there are other alternatives.
