While it is certainly a large home and excessive, I hardly think it is "greed" that is driving the design. As the designers were conscious of being sustainable, I would bet that they limited their construction costs by not changing beam lengths which would ultimately lead to some rather large "excessive" spaces. this is a big thumbs up in my opinion.

"comfortable lifestyles...without taxing nature"!? Come on Paws Awhile, what sort of argument are you trying to make – because they gathered scrap for their place they're immune to criticism? Of course their point isn't to "banish" greed and excess, it's to celebrate it and attempt to alleviate guilt... Do you know what it takes to heat 4300 sq. ft.? Nature's paying the tax on that sale for sure.

The terms "sustainable building" and 4300 sq. feet should not be used in the same sentence!<BR/><BR/>While it is great that this firm used salvaged material from the Big Dig, any house this size is still an exercise in greed and excess.
